Did You Know? From the Medical Nail Technician

  1. The State of Texas has enforced strict rules for Pedicure and Manicure Spas due to at least 2 Deaths caused by infections through the unclean pedicure baths.
  2. Pedicure Baths must be washed and soaked for 10 minutes in an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved disinfectant between every client. Or a liner may be used in a jetless bath.
  3. Every night the screens and jets must be unscrewed and soaked for one hour of all jet pedicure tubs.
  4. Stainless Steel implements should be sterilized in an autoclave.
  5. Sterilization is the only form of infection control to kill spores in viruses and bacteria, including staph infections.
  6. It is important to throw out all files, buffers and disposable implements to protect you, the technician and the next client.
  7. Cuticle Grooming-Cuticles serve an important function, they block bacteria from entering the skin and body. Clip only when necessary and pushing them back is a SAFE option.
  8. Foot Care-Never shave your legs the day you have a pedicure as germs can enter the body in freshly shaven pores.
  9. Always tell your nail technician if you are a diabetic, diabetics are more sensitive and skin can be broken more easily.
  10. Artificial Nails can cause damage to your nails that may take months to repair. After Artificial Nails, Acrylics, or Solar Nails are removed they leave nails weak, brittle and split.
  11. Under an acrylic nail a fungus may be growing and you may not be aware of it.
  12. Onycomycosis, Fungal Nail is extremely contagious and is often passed along from client to client through unclean implements, unclean baths.
  13. Always look to see if your nail technician has gloves on, this will insure a safe, spa experience.
